Privacy policy

This page explains what Find a Well Lab does — and does not — collect when you use findawellab.com. It is written in plain language. It is not legal advice.

Find a Well Lab is a free directory and guide for private well owners. It is an 8Dimension project.

What this site is

Find a Well Lab is a static website hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Pages are HTML files. We do not run a member account system, a shopping cart, or a comment section on this site.

• Lab listings come from official state and provincial sources.
• Guides, a free safety checklist PDF, and educational videos (embedded from YouTube) are available without signing up.
• The “Find a lab near me” search runs in your browser against a public index file. Your search text is not sent to our email or a private database.
• As of the effective date, no affiliate links are live. If that changes, we will update this page and our affiliate disclosure.

What data we collect

We do not ask for your name, email, phone, address, payment card, or well test results to use the site or download the free PDF. There is no email signup form on the site today.

Like almost every website, our host (Cloudflare) automatically records basic technical request data when your browser loads a page. That typically includes:

• IP address
• Date and time of the request
• Page URL requested
• Browser and device type (user-agent)
• Referrer (the page that linked you here, if any)

We use that only to keep the site running, see rough traffic, find broken pages, and protect against abuse. We do not sell personal data.

We have not added a separate marketing analytics script (for example Google Analytics) or a Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon to these pages. If we add one later, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent.

Cookies and similar technology

Our own pages do not set a first-party tracking cookie for advertising.

Third parties that may set cookies or similar technology when you use certain features:

• Cloudflare — may use cookies or equivalent tools for security, performance, and CDN delivery while the site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
• YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode) — video pages embed YouTube using youtube-nocookie.com with lazy loading. When you play a video, Google/YouTube may collect data under their own policies. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Affiliate or referral partners — not live today. If we later add labeled affiliate links, clicking them may set a partner cookie so a commission can be credited. Partner policies will apply on their sites. See our affiliate disclosure.

Outbound links

We link to certified labs, government agencies, product makers, and other sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for their content or data handling.

Free PDF downloads

The Well Water Safety Checklist (English and French) is a direct file download. No email address is required. The download itself may appear in host request logs like any other page request.

We do not sell personal data

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with data brokers for money. Lab listings are never pay-to-rank.

Children

This site is for adults who own or manage a private well. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (US) or under 14 (Quebec). If you believe a child provided personal information to us by email, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights — United States

Depending on where you live (for example California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we have collected about you
• Ask us to delete personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate personal information
• Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioral advertising)
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

To make a request, email [email protected]. Because we do not run accounts, we may only have what you sent us by email plus ordinary host logs.

Your rights — Canada (PIPEDA) and Quebec (Law 25)

If you are in Canada, you may have rights under PIPEDA and, in Quebec, under Law 25 (Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector), including the right to access and correct personal information we hold, and to withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.

We will respond to access and correction requests within the timelines the law requires, and tell you if we need more time.

How long we keep data

• Emails you send us: kept as long as needed to answer you and keep a normal business record, then deleted or archived when no longer needed.
• Host / CDN request logs: kept according to Cloudflare’s retention for Pages / CDN logs (typically a limited rolling window for operations and security).
• We do not keep a separate marketing profile about individual visitors.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Do not send lab results, medical details, or passwords by email unless you understand the risks.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we collect or use data — for example by adding analytics, a newsletter signup, or live affiliate links — we will update this page and change the effective date at the top.
