Pennsylvania has more people on private wells than any other state. This page starts with DEP-accredited labs that publicly accept residential drinking-water samples, plus links to the official DEP accredited-laboratory lists so you can find every certified option near you.
About 3.5 million Pennsylvanians drink from private wells (Penn State Extension / USGS). A 2025 Penn State study found PFAS in 65% of 167 sampled private wells, with 18% above EPA health limits — highest in the southeast.

Notes on this list
This is a starter directory for Find a Well Lab, not a full copy of every PA DEP accredited lab. Always cross-check the official DEP accredited laboratory PDFs linked under Sources before you ship a sample.
Private wells are not regulated like public water. DEP and Penn State Extension recommend annual bacteria testing plus targeted tests when land use or taste/odor change.
PFAS testing is specialty work. Only a subset of PA labs are accredited for EPA Methods 533 / 537.1; ask for method and price before you sample.
Call each lab for bottles, hold times, drop-off hours, and whether they accept samples from homeowners (some primarily serve public systems).

Test every year for total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids, and pH. Use a state-certified drinking water laboratory. Source
Penn State Extension: about half of PA private wells that have been tested show at least one water-quality problem, yet only about half of wells have ever been tested. Source
2025 Penn State citizen-science study: PFAS detected in 65% of 167 private wells sampled statewide; 18% exceeded EPA health-related limits, with higher detections in southeastern PA. Source
